about
The origin of the lyric is based on observations of the band on the impact that our generation has had on the planet around us, and the inevitable conclusion if man continues to abuse the planet at the rate it has done in recent years.
It’s not judgmental, it’s not critical, it is just an observation built on the facts that we can all find and see in the world we currently live in, but many choose to ignore.
It is respectfully dedicated to the victims and the families of the Japan earthquake and subsequent disasters.
lyrics
Staring at the sun
I feel my face begin to burn
Staring at the sun
I don’t care, the race is done
Staring at the sun
There’s nowhere left for me to turn
Staring at the sun
There's nowhere left for me to run
The landscape sprawls out there before me
Where jungle grew there now lies dust
The lungs of Earth have turned to carbon
Incinerated, no chance to adjust
The firestorm raged, unchecked, untamed
Without the rain to quench its thirst
All of life’s diversity destroyed
Erased, no witness, to the loss
The ocean laps against the houses
Where children used to play their games
The dreams of a billion hopeful parents
Drowned out and nothing remains
The seven seas have turned to acid
The coral reefs are all long gone
The shoals that swam the seas for eons
Extinct forever, never reborn
A thousand cities lie submerged,
Beneath the melted ice and snow
Unlit, abandoned to their fate
In the dark and gloom below
Staring at the sun
I feel my face begin to burn
Staring at the sun
I don’t care, the race is done
Staring at the sun
There’s nowhere left for me to turn
Staring at the sun
There's nowhere left for me to run
Six billion dead, a billion lives hang by a thread
Refugees from war and starvation
Uncivilised, are we to bring
An end to civilisation?
We could have turned back if we wanted
It’s not as though we didn’t know
But tipping points are hard to foresee
We thought the risk was low
So from my nightmare reality
Let not my future be your own
This time it's far too late for me
But I hope you'll see some sense
I stand alone, my future stolen
My children lost, my family all gone
To satisfy the ignorance and greed
Of vested interests, who has won?
Staring at the sun
I feel my face begin to burn
Staring at the sun
I don’t care, the race is done
Staring at the sun
There’s nowhere left for me to turn
Staring at the sun...
Staring at the sun
It burns my eyes, burns my mind
Staring at the sun
It breaks my heart and makes me blind
Staring at the sun
There's nowhere left for me to run
Staring at the sun...
Staring at the sun, staring at the sun
Staring at the sun, staring at the sun
Staring at the sun, staring at the sun
Staring at the sun, staring at the sun
